Waltons Back To School Promotion Terms and Conditions
1. Promoter
1.1. This promotional competition ("the Promotion") is organised and conducted by Waltons, a Division of Bidvest Office Proprietary Limited (Registration no: 1997/010942/07) ("Waltons"), herein referred to as "the Promoter".
2. Promotion Period
2.1. The Promotion will run from 1 October 2025 until 31 January 2026.
2.2. Any amendments to the Promotion period will be communicated through the same channels used to advertise the Promotion and will not disadvantage participants who have already entered.
3. Eligibility
3.1. The Promotion is open to all South African residents aged 18 years or older.
3.2. Participants must be parents, grandparents, or legal guardians of a minor child enrolled in an educational institution recognised by the Department of Basic Education.
3.3. Entry ownership. Prizes will only be awarded to the person who submitted the entry with their own details and who meets all the qualifying criteria. Waltons will not enter into any family or third-party disputes regarding entries or prize claims.
3.3. Employees, members, directors, and agents of and/or consultants to the Promoter or any person who directly or indirectly controls or is controlled by the Promoter (including their immediate family members (spouse, life partner, parents, children, and siblings), and any advertising, promotional, and other service providers to the Promoter are not eligible to enter the Promotion.
4. How to Enter
4.1. To qualify for entry, customers must make a single purchase of R500 or more (including VAT) at any Waltons retail store or through Waltons’ Back to School online store during the promotional period.
4.2. For in-store purchases, customers will receive a QR code on their till slip, which they must scan and use to manually enter their details into the draw.
4.3. For qualifying transactions completed online at www.backtoschool.co.za, customers will automatically receive one entry into the draw once payment has been successfully processed.
4.4. Each customer is entitled to one entry only for the duration of the promotion, regardless of the number of qualifying purchases made.
4.5. Proof of purchase will be required to validate any entry. Customers must retain their purchase receipts, as these may be requested for verification purposes.
4.6. It is the participant’s responsibility to ensure that all contact details provided during the entry process are accurate and up to date. Waltons reserves the right to verify purchases and disqualify entries that do not meet the qualifying spend or are found to have been submitted fraudulently.
5. Win Your Share prizes
5.1. Twenty (20) participants will each win R30,000 (thirty thousand South African Rand) towards their child’s education.
5.2. To redeem the prize, winners must provide proof of identity and proof of their child’s enrolment in a recognised educational institution, along with bank account details for verification.
5.3. The prize will be paid directly to the winners upon successful verification.
5.4. The prize is non-transferable, and no substitution or variation of the prize is permitted.
6. Winner selection
6.1. The Promotion will award a total of twenty (20) prizes as specified in clause 5.1.
6.2. Up to three (3) of these winners may be selected through live in-store promotional events hosted at designated Waltons stores.
6.3. All in-store winners must meet the eligibility and validation requirements set out in Sections 3, 4 and 5, including proof of purchase, proof of identity, and proof of their child’s enrolment in a recognised educational institution.
6.4. The selection of winners during an in-store event will be conducted by the Promoter using a fair and transparent method that is capable of being audited.
6.5. An influencer or brand representative may host or present the live in-store event; however, they are not authorised to select or validate winners. The Promoter retains full control over the selection and validation of all prize winners.
6.6. Any live announcements or presentations made during an in-store event will take place only after the Promoter has completed all required verification checks. Such announcements do not replace or override the formal validation process.
6.7. The in-store winners selected in terms of clause 6.2 form part of the total twenty (20) prizes and do not constitute additional prizes beyond those specified in clause 5.1.
6.8. The remaining winners will be randomly selected via audited draws conducted monthly during the Promotion Period.
6.9. These draws will take place at the Promoter’s head office or at another location designated by the Promoter.
6.10. Potential winners will be contacted by email or telephone using the contact details provided at the time of entry, within seven (7) days of the draw.
6.11. If a potential winner cannot be contacted within ten (10) days of their name being drawn, or fails to provide the required documentation within fifteen (15) days of being notified, the prize will be forfeited and a new potential winner will be drawn.
7. General Terms
7.1. By entering the Promotion, participants agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions.
7.2. The Promoter reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to amend these Terms and Conditions or cancel the Promotion without prior notice, subject to applicable law. Any changes will be communicated through the same channels used to advertise the Promotion.
7.3. The Promoter's decision regarding any matter concerning the Promotion will be final, and no correspondence will be entered into.
7.4. Any entry that is found to be fraudulent, misleading, or otherwise in breach of these Terms and Conditions will be disqualified.
8. Data Protection
8.1. By participating in the Promotion, participants agree that the Promoter may collect and process their personal information for the purposes of administering the Promotion and contacting winners.
8.2. The Promoter will ensure that all personal data collected is handled in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) and will only be shared with formal partners and third parties for the purposes of administering this Promotion.
8.3. Participants have the right to withdraw their consent for data processing at any time by contacting the Promoter however, the participant acknowledges that this will result in the participant being unable to participate in the Promotion any further.
9. Publication
9.1. The Promoter may wish to publish names and photographs of the winners on the Promoter’s social media platforms and marketing materials for the purposes of marketing the Promoter and its products, promoting the Promotion and future promotions. Winners will however be allowed to decline the publication of their name and images and to participate in the Promoter’s marketing material insofar as it relates to the Promotion.
9.2. Each participant hereby consents and irrevocably grants to the Promoters, a worldwide, royalty-free (free from any other fee or charge), perpetual and non-exclusive license, to use, produce, reproduce modify, adapt, use, publish or display (including to incorporate it into other works in any form whatsoever) any content posted and/or submitted by the participant on any social media platform in relation to the Promotion or the prize, for any purpose including the promotion of the products and services of the Promoter, without notice to compensation to the participants
10. Indemnity
10.1. To the maximum extent permitted by law, participants indemnify and hold harmless the Promoter, its employees, directors, and agents from any claim, loss, or damage, whether direct, indirect, consequential, or otherwise, arising from their participation in the Promotion or acceptance of the prize.
9.2. The Promoter will not be held responsible for any technical failures or errors beyond its control that may result in a participant's entry not being successfully submitted.
11. Limitation of Liability
11.1. The Promoter accepts no responsibility for any tax implications that may arise from winning the prize. It is the responsibility of the winner to seek independent tax advice. The Promoter also accepts no responsibility for any other charges (bank or otherwise) applied upon payment of the prize.
11.2. The Promoter will not be held liable for any costs incurred by participants in relation to the Promotion, including but not limited to legal fees.
12. Jurisdiction
12.1. These Terms and Conditions are governed by South African law, and any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of South African courts.
12.2. Participants agree to resolve disputes amicably through arbitration or mediation before escalating to legal proceedings.
13. Force majeure
12.1. The Promoter will not be liable for any failure to fulfil its obligations under the Promotion if circumstances beyond its reasonable control (e.g., natural disasters, strikes, pandemics) prevent it from doing so.
